Our partner, Hadir Elhakim, took in a panel discussion on COP27: The Global South in a sustainable and prosperous world. The Panelist discussed the Global South opportunities and challenges related to the effects of climate change, and means of driving forwards a green and just economic transition. Moderated by Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry, Partner and Managing Director, Sustainability and Resilience, DLA Piper, Hubert Danso (Chairman and CEO, Africa Investor Group) and Bogolo Kenewendo (UN Climate Change High-Level Champions’ Special Advisor, Africa Director) gave a macro perspective on the challenges generally facing the African nations.
They were followed by the micro view given by a representative of Africa’s four points of the compass. It was an insightful discussion and valuable contribution of Terence Dambe, Partner, Minchin & Kelly (DLA Piper Africa, Botswana), Dayo Idowu, Partner, Olajide Oyewole LLP (DLA Piper Africa, Nigeria), Beatrice Nyabira, Partner, IKM Advocates (DLA Piper Africa, Kenya), and Hadir Elhakim representing Egypt’s view on the local challenges and opportunities related to climate change.
