Natural Gas Importation through Arab Gas Pipeline

Hafez & Partners is pleased to have advised the Egyptian side on the importation of natural gas through the Arab Gas Pipeline, running from Jordan to Egypt, adding further quantities to those agreed under the landmark long-term gas supply agreement. The reverse-flow project and the increase of the imported quantities contributes to Egypt’s ambition to be a regional-energy export hub, following the re-activation EMG’s idle pipeline and LNG terminals and the establishment of the EastMed Gas Forum headquartered in Cairo, Egypt.

Ahmed Hafez – Managing Partner at Hafez & Partners, Hadir Elhakim – Partner, and Karim Ghorab – Senior Associate, lead the negotiations and advised on this deal.

The team had previously represented the Egyptian stakeholders on the acquisition of a 39% stake in the pipeline owner Eastern Mediterranean Gas Co., (EMG) valued at $518 million, and negotiated the gas sale purchase agreements with various stakeholders.
